A Church: Some churches are made of stone and some are wooden. Some are big and some are small. One thing they all have in common is that they are places where people worship God.
Baptismal Font: The baptismal font is the pool of water used for Baptism. Water is used to remind us of new life. The tall candle is called the Easter candle. It is lit during Baptism to remind us of Jesus, the Light of the world.
Crucifix: The crucifix is a sign of Jesus' love for us. You see the crucifix near the altar. Not all crucifixes are the same. This one shows Jesus after he was raised from the dead. The crucifix reminds us that Jesus died and was raised again to new life.
Altar Table: The altar is the table where the Liturgy of the Eucharist is celebrated at Mass. It reminds us of the Last Supper and that Jesus died for us. The altar is also called the Table of the Lord. It is the table from which Jesus shares his Body and Blood with us.
The Assembly: The assembly is the people gathered for Mass. The pews are the seats where the people sit.
Ambo: The Ambo is the special stand or place from where the Scriptures are read during Mass. The Lector is the person who reads the first and second readings during Mass. The deacon or priest reads the Gospel.
Book of the Gospels Lectionary: The Book of the Gospels contains the Gospel readings we listen to at Mass. The first two readings are from the Lectionary. The four Gospel writes are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Monstrance: A vessel in which the consecrated Host is exposed for the adoration of the faithful.
Tabernacle: The tabernacle is where the Eucharist, or Blessed Sacrament, is kept. When the candle next to the tabernacle is lit, it means that the Blessed Sacrament is in the tabernacle.
